Wasgamuwa national park was originally declared a nature reseve as early on as 1938. The park lies within central and north- central provinces and consists of riverine forest, dry mixed evergreen forst, grasslands and wetlands. Wasgamuwa is famous as an elephant habitat but is also home to leopard, sloth bear, sambhur, spotted and barking deer and wild boar. A vast number of birds can also be observed here, including the lesser Adjutant Stork, Open Bill and painted Storks, the Yellow Fronted Barbet, jungle fowl and Spur fowl.Wednesday, February 16, 2011
